The trail was constructed during the summer of 2008 by 8th and 9th grade youth participating in Mt. Ashland's Youth Summer Services Program, an environmental stewardship program run annually by the ski area staff. The effort won an award at the Oregon Governor's Conference on Tourism for making the Siskiyou Crest more accessible to locals and tourists alike.
