Team Oregon Wins the International Snow Sculpting Competition
Last season Mt. Ashland hosted a snow sculpting contest organized by Roger Butterfield with support from the Arts Council of Southern Oregon. The event was the only one of its kind in Oregon last ski season.
Roger’s team won the Mt. Ashland competition that qualified the team to apply for event consideration at both the international competition held in Breckenridge Colorado January 23-28, 2007 and the national competition held in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin the very next week, January 31 to February 4, 2007. The team was invited to compete in both competitions, and initially accepted both invitations. They later decided to compete in the Breckenridge event and then return home.
Fourteen teams competed in the Budweiser Select International Snow Sculpture Competition in Breckenridge from around the world including teams from Switzerland, Turkey, Canada, the Czech-Republic, and Mexico. Roger’s Team Oregon consisting of Roger Butterfield, Kevin Christman, Gabriel Lipper, and Toby Linwood took first place in both the judges and people’s choice awards.
