*An additional note from Mt. Ashland:
Although it was released in 1968, Night of the Living Dead remains one of the most influential horror films ever made. It established many of the conventions that later zombie, apocalypse, and survival horror stories would follow while helping shift horror from classic suspense to the more graphic, socially conscious films of the 1970s. Its groundbreaking violence, shocking themes, and independent production proved that low-budget films could achieve mainstream success and leave a lasting impact on the genre.

Beyond its historical importance, the film is widely praised for its intelligent storytelling and social commentary. Its bleak atmosphere, striking black-and-white cinematography, memorable opening and ending, and themes of fear, isolation, and societal conflict give it a depth that extends far beyond a typical horror movie. Balancing suspense, satire, and psychological tension, it is considered by many critics and fans to be one of the defining horror films of the 1960s.
