Thank You, Mt. Ashland
A note from our departing GM, Andrew Gast
Mt. Ashland is one of those rare places that stays with you, not because of its size, but because of its people.
When I stepped into the role of General Manager, I expected challenges — late storms, natural-snow unpredictability, ambitious capital planning, and the constant puzzle of balancing mission and budget. What I found instead was a community that doesn’t just support this mountain, but sustains it. That has been the greatest privilege of this role.
I’m moving on because I’ll be stepping into a new role at another community-focused mountain. It’s a new opportunity I’m excited to take, and one that allows me to continue working in the community ski world I care so deeply about. While I’ll miss this place tremendously, I leave proud, grateful, and energized for what’s ahead — both for me and for Mt. Ashland.
During my time here, we made meaningful progress on long-term priorities: chairlift replacement planning, trail improvements like widening Doug’s Way and building Bumblebee, facility improvements, stronger event programming, sponsorship growth, and governance work that supports a thriving future. We made incredible steps forward to ensure the Mt. Ashland crew is compensated appropriately for their hard work and strengthening our commitment to guest service and Gemutlichkeit. These steps were never about reinvention — they were about stewardship, resilience, and sustainability.
To our staff — thank you for your Teamwork, Selling the Stoke, Looking Good, and all the Sweat you put into this place. You are the mountain’s heartbeat.
To our volunteers and board members — thank you for your leadership, strategic focus, and unwavering commitment to this organization’s mission. Mt. Ashland exists because you lead, advocate, and believe in its future.
To our donors and sponsors — thank you for investing in opportunity and community. Your support is the reason this mountain continues to grow thoughtfully and intentionally.
And to our guests and season pass holders — thank you for your candor, your passion for this place, and your role in shaping what Mt. Ashland means to Southern Oregon. This mountain exists for you, and it has been an honor to serve you.
Mt. Ashland’s future is strong because its community is strong. I leave grateful to have contributed to that foundation, and confident that the best seasons are still ahead.
Thank you, Mt. Ashland.
I’ll See You On the Mountain,
Andrew Gast
